Speech Debelle

Our conference in Westminster on 2 December 2010 was also attended by Mercury Music Prize winning rapper Speech Debelle.

During the project she supported User Voice and the young people we work with through three music workshops in Birmingham, London & Manchester.

She is now producing a song based on the experiences of the young people she met and later this year Speech will be fronting a documentary about these issues.

What's your story?

If the petition gets 100, 000 signatures it will be considered for a debate in the House of Commons. User Voice people have called for cameras with sound recording to be introduced into all youth custodial and police settings. They believe that this would help to reduce violence against children in custody by monitoring the behaviour of staff and ensuring greater transparency and accountability. They are campaigning as part of CRAE’s Ending Violence against Children in Custody project. Moral support, whether it’s from family or outsiders, it’s nice to feel like you have someone to talk to, who will support you through the hard times, good times. If you’re out there completely on your own, you’re fucked.
